Censorship Becomes Stricter

The Great Firewall of China is about to become even more rigid. Beijing is preparing to make it much more difficult for unapproved information to enter the country. The government is calling on state-owned telecommunication providers to stamp out VPNs that citizens use to access foreign content. China expects for this process to be complete by February 2018 at the latest. “If the authorities really move to neuter all VPNs, it will also mean that they have to cut off China from the global Internet. The long-term effects will be devastating,” states the anonymous co-Founder of GreatFire.org.
