China Bans Select “Dirty” Vehicles

China plans to ban the production and sale of diesel and petrol vehicles. China’s Vice Minister of Industry noted that “relevant research” is already underway, but there is no timeline for when this ban will go into effect. Both the UK and France have announced plans to ban new diesel and petrol vehicles by 2040, and China, which produced about 30% of the total global number of cars last year, believes it is a sound decision to follow suit. China hopes that EVs and hybrids will account for at least 20% of total vehicle sales by 2025.
