Prudential Reports Strong China Operations

A rise of businesses in China has helped UK-based insurer Prudential report record-breaking operating profits and offset losses in other areas of Asia. Eamonn Flanagan, an analyst at Shore Capital, described the numbers as “astonishing.” There have been concerns that a clampdown on capital outflows may dent Prudential’s China operations in the future. Prudential CFO Nic Nicandrou remains wary, noting that, “The reasons for demand remain the same. The appetite to buy products in Hong Kong will continue, but it is difficult to know how strong it will be as we move forward.”
