At the recent Shanghai auto show, Volvo Cars announced its intent to manufacture EVs in China to be sold across the world in 2019. The company’s first pure EV model will be based on the economy-size CMA platform it shares with Geely. Chinese buyers have shown little enthusiasm for EVs due to concerns regarding cost, reliability and limited range. Chinese authorities are using a mix of incentives and penalties to incentive automakers to manufacture EVs. These incentives have caused many automakers to develop unique and extravagant models to try to attract Chinese buyers.
