HP Buys Samsung Printers

China has approved HP Inc.’s US$1.1 billion purchase of Samsung Electronics’ printer business, but is concerned about Samsung’s dominance of the domestic laser printer market. HP initially announced the deal in September 2016 and had hoped to close the transaction within 12 months. Fortunately, the deal has been approved with only a few restrictions. For instance, HP’s sale of A4 format laser printers in China should be done on “fair and reasonable” grounds and the company must report its prices and sales data to the ministry every six months.
